The double-hung window is perhaps the most famous kind of windows. It consists of upper and lower wings, which slide vertically in separate grooves in the side posts or full width metal weatherstripping (see drawing). This type of window has a maximum face opening for ventilation of the half of the total window area. Each wing is equipped with springs, balances or compression weatherstripping, keep it in at any position.
